John Oliver Simon: Berkeley, CA, United States; 5th-generation Californian born in exile in NYC 1942, mprinted on vocation as poet 1957, educated at Putney, Swarthmore and Cal, participated in revolutionary hippie poetry scenbe Berkeley 1968, began teaching poetry to kids in a parent coop free school 1971, statewide coordinator of California Poets In The Scholols 1978-81, started translating from Spanish 1982, taught full time 1986-95 and 1998-2000, wandered Latin America 1995-96 writing Caminante, blurbed by Gary Snyder "a major poem," published by Creative Arts which promptly went nakrupt, since 2001 Artistic Director of Poetry Inside Out, a program of the Center for the Art of Translation.
